Day 22 - Squaw Valley USA

Sunday my day started a bit late, thanks to a late night getting my groove on at Lakeside, and cooking breakfast for the house - scrambled eggs with carmelized onions, mushrooms, cheddar, sage, and thyme. As my buddy Ken used to say "it should be pretty good - I put a lot of thyme (time) into it" Bada bump. I'll be here all week :)

The lots were jammed at Squaw, but I was able to find a spot right next to Far East Express, thanks to the amazing parking abilities of the ti

Squaw and Polar Bear Swim 03.06.10 - DAY 21

Hello Dazzlers! Friday night kicked off Snowfest, North Lake Tahoe's celebration of all things winter, and always a good time. I was laid low by a stomach bug on Friday, but managed to make it up to the cabin that evening, carpooling with Jeff G.

Laura K joined us for the dawn patrol trip to Squaw Valley, where finally our passes are good on Saturdays! No complaints given the great deal Squaw threw down last spring to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1960 Winter Olym

Northstar Bluebird Day 2.28 - Day 20

Saturday beat me up pretty bad, but I was still eager to get in my 20th day of the season. Alison and I had picked up free tickets to Northstar-at-Tahoe for test driving the Toyota RAV4 in December, so we headed over with our friend Karen to meet my buddy Chris. We stopped at Java Hut in Kings Beach for coffee and breakfast sandwiches (you've gotta hit this place up - skip the Starbucks in the Safeway!) and enjoyed this view while the eggs were cooking . . .

Best Snow of the Season - Sierra-at-Tahoe 2.27 - Day 19

Saturday morning I got up early, picked up my friend Alison in Vallejo, and made it up to Sierra-at-Tahoe without having to put on chains :) There was about 2 feet of fresh snow on the upper mountain from the Friday storm, and conditions were fantastic. It was Alison's first day of the season (see her big smile here).

Sorry to hear about your bike, that's a bummer :(

I'm gonna have to get out to Kirkwood sometime and find a local to buddy up with I guess. . . that place sounds amazing!

The Eastern Sierras are great in the summer, there's so much to do up there! You'll have to come check out Mammoth in the winter too. It's quite a drive for you compared to Tahoe, but I'm sure you'd enjoy the mountain. It offers a bit of everything, as far as terrain. It's big and spread out, kind of like Squaw, but once you learn the lift system it's pretty easy and quick to get around.

Take some pictures on your upcoming Tahoe trip! Happy trails!

Yeah, Santa Barbara is nice too. . . I lived there for school and still make it down there quite a bit. Most of the tourists come to Santa Ynez for the wine, but I love all of the hiking and biking trails around here to keep me entertained when I can't be skiing. Watch out for the heat in the summer, though!

Homewood is awesome, you just can't beat that view! I heard they are planning on building it up though, putting in a village or something? Too bad, I like it the way it is. Mt Rose is great too, a little further drive, but it never disappoints. Do you ever ski Kirkwood? I never have, but want to get out there sometime. I always hear good things about it.

Mammoth usually stays open thru July 4th, but I heard rumors that they're closing earlier this season- lack of customers I guess. I usually don't ski past April anyway. . . too slushy.

Hey, you don't happen to be the same Josh I met on a lift in Jackson Hole last season, do you? Just wondering because you fit the description. Anyway, have fun on your next Tahoe trip! You never know, you could get another storm. I'll pray for snow.

Hey Josh,
Ya, it's a long haul to the snow from Santa Ynez, but I carpool up to Mammoth and we take turns driving, so it's not so bad. I used to always go to North Lake Tahoe when I was little, but these days I only make it up there about once a year. Alpine and Squaw are my favorites up there, but they're all fun. Where do you usually ski in Tahoe?
